I guess Princeton Review assumes their average reader cannot solve equations, so a simple algebra problem is converted into plug in arithmetics that has to be repeated several times untill the right answer is hit and it takes 3 times the time. One thing I don't like about the solutions is that they always plug in numbers, even in questions where a more time efficient approach would be to write a simple equation and solve it.
